Hard Contact Lens

The Proper Cleaning of Hard Contact Lenses

A Hard contact lens is made of a very fine material called  polymethylmethacrylate or PMMA as per  scientific terminology. It is a rigid polymer, unlike the material that  soft contact lenses are made of. Its water content is also lower than the material that soft contacts are made of.

The cleaning process of hard contact lens is different from the cleaning process of soft contacts.  As a user, you should have a very good idea of the cleaning process. You should also be aware of how to use and wear the lens. If you look after your contact lenses, they will last you for a long time.

It becomes very important to handle the hard contact lens in a proper way. You need to wash your hand before you touch the hard contact lens. It becomes very important to use an antibacterial soap which does not have any fragrance. Using such soap will ensure that your hands are germ free when you handle the lens.

Before the cleaning process, it becomes very important to remove the lens from the eye. This has to be done with the highest care. After the lens is properly removed, put the lens on the center of your hand. After you put the lens on the hand, you can start the cleaning process.

It is very important to apply a few drops of lens cleaner on the lens. It depends on the amount of dirt on the lens. The fact of the matter is that the number of lens cleaner drops is directly proportional to the quantity of dirt on the lens.

You need to put the lens cleaner solution on the lens for a time period of about 30 seconds. Start the process very delicately. After this, start the rinsing process. You need to rinse the lens with lukewarm water. The process will take another few seconds.

When you are satisfied that the lens is clean, put it back into the special lens case and proceed to fill it with conditioning solution. The cleaning solution is especially formulated for hard contact lenses. Repeat the entire procedure for the other eye.
