Contact Lens For Farsightedness |

The medical name for farsightedness is
hyperopia. Farsightedness is generally a vision problem in which the
near vision gets blurred while the distance vision remains normal.
Farsightedness in young people makes them unable to see clearly at all
distances, only causing headaches and eyestrains. While farsightedness
in older people causes blurred vision at all distances. When the cornea
or lens is not able to curve enough to bring light to a focus within the
length of the eyeball then farsightedness occurs. This means that the
cornea and lens should have the right amount of curvature to avoid
farsightedness.
But in some cases, cornea and
lens have same curvature but the eyeball is smaller therefore not
providing enough distance to match focus distance of lens and the
cornea. However, people with farsightedness often compensate by focusing
harder with their eyes but overuse of focusing would result in headaches
and eyestrains. This focusing condition is called accommodation and is
usually common among the teens and younger people. But, accommodation is
really difficult for the older people thus resulting in blurred vision
if not corrected. Some of the symptoms of moderate farsightedness are:
A) Eyestrain when performing any close work
B) Headaches
C) Blurred vision
D) Poor concentration
Farsightedness is often confused with the condition presbyopia.
Presbyopia is a normal loss of near vision as one ages due to hardening
of crystalline lens whereas farsightedness attacks early in childhood
and remains throughout the life. Presbyopia is experienced by everyone
whereas not everyone experiences farsightedness.
Farsightedness
can be detected by an eye exam performed by an optometrist or
ophthalmologist. For correcting farsightedness, a convex or plus lens is
prescribed which is usually thicker at the center and thinner on the
edges. It can also be corrected with spectacles and refractive surgery.
It is one of the most common vision problems engulfing about one-fourth
of the population. Your glasses or contact lens numbers for
farsightedness usually begins with +2.50. Also a family history of
farsightedness is an added risk factor.
