Sunglasses are a popular fashion accessory, but also
provide a great service to the eyes. In fact, the darkened or colored
lenses of sunglasses help protect the eyes by screening strong light out
from the eyes. For many people, sunlight can be too bright and
uncomfortable. It can even be uncomfortable when it reflects off other
surfaces and shines into the eyes, such as when light reflects from a
newspaper.
Many outdoor enthusiasts also
benefit from the use of sunglasses, such as when engaging in activities
like flying and skiing. During these activities, the eyes can be
inundated with too much light, particularly as it reflects from the snow
and the clouds. Wearing sunglasses during these activities can be quite
beneficial in helping the person see more clearly. Even actors have more
reason to wear sunglasses than to just look stylish – the lighting used
during movie production can be very bright and uncomfortable to the
unprotected eye.
Health benefits of wearing sunglasses:
In
addition to the added level of comfort brought on my sunglasses,
sunglasses also help keep the eyes healthier. For example, sunglasses
with ultraviolet radiation (UV) protection can help prevent the eyes
from developing cataracts. For this reason, it is important to be sure
sunglasses are not merely tinted, but that they also provide this extra
layer of protection. In fact, lenses that are just dark can be harmful
to the eyes because they cause the pupils to dilate and take in more of
the harmful UV rays.
A) Grays sunglass lenses: Gray is the
most popular color used for sunglass lenses. This is understandable
because this neutral color is the only one that provides true color
transmission without enhancing or distorting the color. For this reason,
gray sunglass lenses are ideal for driving, boating, and fishing.
B)
Brown sunglass lenses: Brown sunglass lenses help to improve
depth perception and provide a greater contrast. Therefore, brown
sunglass lenses are often sought by golfers who enjoy the rewards added
depth perception brings to their game. Brown sunglass lenses are also
great for driving.
C) Vermillion and Copper sunglass lenses:Vermillion
or copper colored sunglass lenses provide improved visual resolution in
fog and haze. For these reasons, skiers often wear Vermillion and copper
sunglass lenses in order to gain improved vision during hazy winter
days. Vermillion and copper sunglass lenses are also good to wear during
target shooting and driving.
D) Amber sunglass lenses: Sports
car racers often choose to wear amber sunglass lenses. This is because
they help improve depth perception, making it easier to find the right
“lines” on the track and to come close to a competitor without hitting
him. In addition, amber sunglass lenses enhance the mid-range colors
that are often used to paint racecars.
E) Yellow sunglass lenses: Skeet
shooters and those working in low light conditions often choose to wear
yellow sunglass lenses. This is because they help filter out blue light
and, along with orange sunglass lenses; they provide the best contrast
and depth perception. For skeet shooters, this helps filter out the
color of the sky and make it easier to find the target. For those in low
light conditions, it can actually help make the surroundings clearer.
F)
Rainbow sunglass lenses: Rainbow sunglass lenses are those that
start with a light gray color at the top and transition to a pink color
at the bottom. Rainbow sunglass lenses are perfect to wear in situations
wear the light is very bright or causes a glare.
G) Melanin and
Golden Brown sunglass lenses: Melanin and golden brown sunglass
lenses help to filter out blue and violet light, while still providing
true color. They are best used while driving or golfing as they help to
not only filter out the sun, but to also filter out the colors of the
blue sky.
H) Red Sunglass lenses:Red sunglass lenses
enhance the contrast of colors. Therefore, they are good for wearing in
medium or lower lighting conditions to help improve vision while still
blocking out harmful UV rays.
I) Mirrored Sunglass lenses:Some
sunglass lenses are mirrored rather than colored. This mirrored coating
reflects light when it hits the lens, which is particularly beneficial
in bright conditions. These mirrored lenses can also be colored and are
sometimes used to aid with special polarization techniques used with
sunglasses.
