Contact lenses have brought a revolution in
the field of eye care. Colored contact lenses are at once used for
correcting vision and for making a style statement of your own. Contact
lenses are small plastic discs in the shape of a cornea. These lenses
are curved on the backside. They are curved slightly different on the
front to allow them to correct near and farsightedness, astigmatism and
presbyopia. There are different varieties of contact lenses like the
colored contact lense, disposable contact lens, bifocal contact lens,
black contact lens, cosmetic contact lenses and alike.
Disposable contact lenses are the one designed to be replaced
more often than regular lenses. Almost all disposable lenses are of the
soflens variety. Replacing your lenses now is at your whim with daily
replacement becoming possible. The prime advantage of disposable lenses
is that you replace the lenses before they become too dirty. That is
why, disposable contact lenses are safe and healthy for the eyes. Also,
new type of disposable contact lens are more thinner to improve the
ability of oxygen to pass through the lens to cornea. As these lenses
are quickly replaced, contact lens cleaning becomes more easier.
Disposable
lenses come in various types and varieties depending upon the time of
their replacement. They are:
1) Daily disposable contact
lenses- which were introduced in 1995 are one of the type. After
wearing for a day, these lenses are discarded every night and are
replaced with a new pair of fresh lenses the next morning. This helps in
protecting your eyes from infection and disease as your lenses can be
contaminated with calcium or proteins building up on the lenses. These
lenses also reduces the risk of contact lenses dry eyes and irritation
of the eye.
2) The 1 to 2 week disposable contact lenses-
which were introduced in 1987. As you can guess, after using for 1 to 2
weeks, they are discarded and replaced with a new pair of lenses. It
helps you prevent the deposits of calcium and protein being built on the
lenses which can cause eye irritation. You can keep your eyes healthy
and free from substances like lipids, calcium and protein.
3)
Monthly disposable contact lenses- which were approved for use in
2001 and can be worn continuously for thirty days. These lenses are made
from a material known as super permeable silicone hydrogel. These lenses
provide higher level of oxygen to the cornea. Monthly disposable lenses
are often used as an alternative to the correction of vision through
laser technology due to the uncomfortable factor of undergoing a
surgical process.
Disposable lenses usually come under the
category of soft lenses. These are very useful, convenient and of course
reduce the risk of infections and other diseases.
