Eyes are very
sensitive organs of your body. People with vision problem use the
contact lenses. According to the will of the patient, the lenses are
made thin and thick. The material used in manufacturing the soft
contact lenses is hydrophilic plastics. These plastics are water
loving and they absorb the fluid. The amount of water absorbed by
these plastics can go as high as 80% and as low as 37%. Astigmatism,
myopia and hyper- metropia are some of the vision problems that are
cured with the help of soft contact lenses. Soft contact lenses are
sometimes prescribed for the correction of vision in cataract
operations.
The person using the
soft contact lenses is prone to the problems of ocular complications.
The rest problems are:
1. Abrasions
2. Eye inflammation
3. Allergic reaction
4. Corneal shape change
5. Growth of blood vessels in normal
cornea
If the lenses are used daily, infection
risk is very low for about 1% but if the lenses are used overnight,
the risk increases 3% more. The solutions provided for the cleansing
of the lenses must only be used not the homemade solutions as they
increase the risk of infection and complications in the eyes.
Non-sterile and saline solutions are never recommended by the eye
specialists. The individual using the soft contact lenses must be
aware of the instructions about how to handle the contact lenses.
During the cataract surgery the natural lens is replaced by the soft
contact. These kinds of surgeries are also known as the intraocular
implants. The cataract surgeries have made the soft contact lenses
more and more common these days.
Soft contact lenses have even become a
fashion these days. Glasses are left behind and are considered old
fashioned by the young generation. Using soft contact lenses is not a
difficult job. The only thing required is the total information about
how to use the lens and how to maintain the lenses.
